What Is Your Favorite Fairy Tale ?

Hey Guys, I've been thinking of maybe creating a graphic novel or a short story book involving some sort of fairy tale component in it, I want to hear about what you guys think and Which Fairy Tale is your favorite and what you like about it.  : )

I really don't know what my favorite fairy tale is....but my suggestion is make the fairytale/fantasy not a fairytale, like give it meaning like the book thief something life-changing and then plump it up with amazing dragons and epic characters, and a jaw-dropping plot. Give it a character with something to fight for and give the book mind-changing fantasy twists.

Rapunzel is my favourite - the original, not the Disney-fied version told in Tangled.

I've always loved Alice in Wonderland. I see it less for the drugs and crap people say about it. I see the story of a child afraid to grow up but longing to at the same time. Of impossible things becoming possible, and how sometimes we just can't explain things. Of curiosity and witty canter, dreaming, and learning things about yourself you never knew. "I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then."

Beauty & The Beast is my ultimate favorite because I believe that it taught the most important lesson of all fairy tales.

mine is Beauty and the Beast, mainly because when everyone hates Beast, he is kind to Belle and she loves him for who he is (i mean who wouldn't like to fall asleep on a mountain of soft fur - we all tried to sleep on our pets, no point denying it :)) and i just love who a misunderstanding can lead to a tragedy...

I always liked the boy who painted cats. It's about this boy who was really sick and farm life wasn't good for him so his patents sent him to work as an acolyte in a temple. One priest encouraged his artistic skills so the boy would always paint him pictures of cats. One day the second old priest caught him painting when he was supposed to be working so he threw him out of the temple. The first priest sent him on his way with a fancy set of paints and the instructions " stick to small. He ventures out to find another temple. He finds himself in another village and takes refuge in an abandoned temple (he doesn't know it's abandoned).he paints the white screens with many cats. In the night he hears a terrible sound and remembering the priests words, he hides himself in a small cupboard. He sees that all the cats are gone and the screen has several tears in it. The only cat left is a great king cat he he painted. And the sword of the rat king who had been terrorizing the village lay at the cats feet. The villagers are overjoyed and decide to remodel the temple. They commission the boy to paint all the walls and live happily ever after. This is a Japanese story.

I don't remember who it was by but there's this old fairy tale from somewhere in Europe (possibly Danish, maybe), um.. I think it was something called the ink pot man or something... there was a black boy who would constantly be taunted by some mean kids in town for having dark skin, a man who makes ink tells those boys off saying something like they shouldn't tease the boy for the colour of his skin, and to teach those bullies a lesson he dipped them into his big ink pot to make them black as well so they'd empathize.

Considering it was a very old fairy tale I felt it was quite ahead in it's time in terms of civil rights XD

There was a children's book my father used to read to me when I was little called Tailypo. It is about a man who lived with his dogs in the woods and cut off a strange creature's tail. Since he had nothing to eat that night, he ate the tail. Eventually the creature came back and scratched him open to get it's tail back. I always loved how strange and creepy the story was, and that unlike most stories I would hear from "grown-ups," in this story, the creature killed the man, not the other way around.

Even if this is not really a fairy-tale, I thought it was worth mentioning.

I think the little mermaid. I love reading the original stories and they're much more gruesome but feel like they have deeper meaning because of it. That and The sea-hare.

It's not a tale so I don't know if that can count as a fairy tale, but since there are fairies in it... I suppose I can take it as if it was one.
Peter Pan.

The eternal child always sounded dreamy for me... I don't know why. That was so touching, this little boy afraid and disgsted by adults...

I love the Seven Ravens - loosely the same story as the Six Swans and Twelve brothers. There's such a nice wide dynamic of story that can sift together in them.
