Updates, Updates, Updates!Okay! Not sure how many of you will care about all of these, but here are some updates for you!
First things first! ~VeyrongTouch and I are working on a non-profit site that will promote other charity and volunteer groups I enjoy being involved in.We're also working on a tumblr, Google+ page, YouTube channel, and possibly a FaceBook page as well to go along with it. When it's finished, I'll have everything up. All networks will be under "Hears Who Give." Here's the thing, though: As awesome as he is, he's not getting a bunch of work right now. He does retouching for glamour photos and shoots, and he's really good. He makes it very natural and very bright. But without work, soon he won't be able to pay his bills. He's unable to move and he can't speak English very well, so for now, he has to stick to working from his home computer, which I'm sure is partially why he's having a hard time finding work. If you want to read more from him, here's his journal announcing both things:

Lend Me Your Links!So, the last time I did this sort of thing was a lot of fun! My message center is an absolute mess and I really don't get to browse around dA as much as I like. What I try to do sometimes is ask my watchers and friends to toss some links to deviations they think need more attention or just want to share with someone! Message Center Performance Upgrades

  Message Center news to know!
Today we completed a three-month process of implementing performance upgrades to the Message Center.  With these improvements in place, we're able to increase site speed and decrease the amount of errors deviants may experience in their Message Centers.  Our Devious Technology and Tech Ops teams have been working hard to move Message Center data to its own dedicated database cluster. We made a considerable investment in servers with 96GB of memory and 12 CPU cores to handle 6 billion messages and 6500 queries per second.
What does this mean for you?

Absolutely nothing. We hope. The upgrades have already taken place and you shouldn't notice any change in your normal deviantART experience. Eventually, you should notice an increase in site speed and a decrease in Message Center errors.

Update: Fair Exposure and Popular Browse

Fair Exposure and miscategorization
On January 24th, 2012, we released an #hq journal regarding Popular results for Browse. In this journal, we described Fair Exposure -- deviantART's algorithm for Popular browse results. Fair Exposure's goal is to showcase the most popular deviations in a variety of styles, genres, and art forms, without bias towards a particular topic.
Since the release of our Fair Exposure announcement, especially in the last handful of weeks, we've noticed a concerted, dedicated effort made by deviants, or groups of deviants, to specifically beat (or "game") the system. Deviations have been intentionally miscategorized in hopes of having them appear "higher" in Popular results. This has, rightfully so, resulted in complaints from deviants who submit to deviantART in a fair and honest manner.

New deviantART ThumbnailsIn the weekly Site Updates, we've been telling you all about the changes that have been launched to deviantART, getting your feedback, and reporting all the bugs that have been fixed.
This change is a little different, since it involves a feature that has been in place for a long time. We think it deserves an announcement of its own, ahead of time.
The current deviantART thumbnails (the smaller versions of deviations) have served the community well for years; however, there's always room for improvement.
Some of the problems with existing thumbnails are: they leave a lot of blank space around them, there isn't a lot of room for text for literature deviations, and the thumbnails don't present very tall/wide images well.
