Site Update: More Like This on Deviations
For those of you who are in beta, you probably know what I'm referring to, if you don't, please be informed here: [link]
Before I start talking about this new feature, here are the pro and con for this feature.Pros
1.enables sharing, discover more from different artist and from the same artist
2.Help promote your artworks when displayed, help promote other artist Cons
1.Distracting from the deviation that you are viewing
2.Displays non related deviation or not up to standard deviation
3.Some deviants find it like ads. They want to be able to pick who they want to have featured with their deviation.
4.Takes longer to load
After considering all these pros and cons, honestly, I think this feature has potential. Deviantart is going in a good direction although they might not be implementing it the right way. Deviantart is about community of artists, their works , discovery and sharing which I think is what this feature is trying to do. But here's the problem, I agree with a lot of you who are saying that its distracting from the original deviation that you are trying to view. on that note, it is the esthetics that needs to be improved. like many of you suggested This feature could be better if:
1.Making it less distracting by having it as a link that you can click on to bring you to the "More like this page. or have it as a drop down or collapsible window that is hidden unless clicked on. Or have it moved down or somewhere that wont compete with the deviation you are viewing.)
2.improve on what is shown in the more like this section (more relevant deviation) If we have some option on what we can see there that would be awesome.
3.Make it optional, deviants can turn the feature on or off.
understand that Deviantart is trying a new thing and usually that means they are risking a lot of time and money to try to make it better. They will eventually make it better : )
Let me know what you guys think, and if I forgot to mention an pros and cons.
